Following his release from prison last month, Su Zhu, the co-founder of the collapsed cryptocurrency hedge fund Three Arrows Capital, has provided valuable insights into his time behind bars in Singapore.
In an interview posted on the social media platform X, Zhu described his incarceration as a surprisingly positive experience. Although he did not explicitly recommend it, he indicated that there were beneficial aspects to the experience that he believes everyone should have the opportunity to understand.
One of the notable elements of his time in prison that Zhu highlighted was the enforced sleeping schedule. He mentioned that the strict lights-off time from 9:30 PM to 5:30 AM greatly improved his sleeping habits, leading to what he described as the best sleep of his life.
Additionally, Zhu shared how sleeping on a mat in prison created a unique and almost spiritual connection to his ancestors, leading to a remarkably different perspective than what one might expect from incarceration.
As a key figure in the institutional collapse that ushered in the crypto winter, Zhu’s release from prison marks the beginning of a new chapter in his career. He has announced that he is stepping away from Three Arrows Capital to focus on a new venture, a crypto exchange named Open Exchange (OPNX).
Open Exchange, which was established in April last year by Zhu, Kyle Davies, and Mark Lamb, has already gained attention in the industry. Although its headquarters have yet to be finalized, the team has registered an office in Hong Kong’s central business district and is reportedly supported by investors. However, it remains uncertain whether the exchange is fully licensed to operate in the region.
