Ex-BlackRock Executive Now Part of Crypto Investment Leader Pantera Capital

Former BlackRock Managing Director Joins Crypto VC Heavyweight Pantera Capital

Pantera Capital, a renowned cryptocurrency venture capital firm with a strong focus on Web3 technologies, has recently welcomed Todd Slattery as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Prior to joining Pantera, Slattery had an impressive 22-year career at top financial institutions such as BlackRock and Goldman Sachs, where he served in various leadership roles.

With Pantera Capital’s official announcement of Slattery’s appointment, it is clear that the firm is strategically positioning itself to further advance its mission of fostering the growth of the digital economy. In his role as COO, Slattery will play a key role in driving Pantera’s efforts in the Web3 investing landscape.

During his tenure at BlackRock from 2011 to 2021, Slattery held the position of Managing Director, overseeing the Alternatives Platform and Global Institutional Clients. Prior to that, he served as Vice President and Managing Director at Goldman Sachs from 2000 to 2010, gaining valuable experience in the financial services industry.

In a recent statement, Slattery expressed his enthusiasm for the blockchain economy and highlighted the importance of employing strategic investment strategies to capitalize on its growth and innovation. He believes that Pantera, with its experience, network, and disciplined approach developed since 2013, is well-positioned to lead as an active investor in the evolving landscape of Web3 technologies.

Before his role at Pantera Capital, Slattery held the position of Chief Operating Officer at CBC Group, a prominent healthcare-dedicated asset management firm in Asia, where he helped shape the firm’s strategic operational platform.

In the realm of cryptocurrency ETFs, BlackRock has made significant strides, particularly with the launch of Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs. While Bitcoin’s ETF has seen impressive growth in terms of assets under management (AUM) and trading activity, Ethereum’s ETF has faced challenges in attracting the same level of investor interest.

Robert Mitchnick, BlackRock’s head of digital assets, acknowledged the differences in investment appeal between Bitcoin and Ethereum, citing the need for further education and explanation to investors regarding the nuances of Ether and the Ethereum ecosystem. BlackRock remains committed to guiding its clients through the complexities of ETH investment and continues to drive awareness and understanding of Ethereum’s potential in the global economy.
