Brave Wallet Integrates Bitcoin Support For Its 60 Million Users

Brave, the privacy-focused web browser with over 60 million users, has recently updated its desktop version (1.63) to include support for Native SegWit Bitcoin wallets within its integrated Brave Wallet. This new feature allows users to send and receive Bitcoin from various address types, such as Legacy, Nested SegWit, Native SegWit, and Taproot, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of third-party wallets.

The timing of this update coincides with the increasing institutional adoption of Bitcoin, especially with the recent approval of several Bitcoin ETFs in the United States. Bitcoin, known for its resilience as an asset class, is expanding beyond peer-to-peer payments to include store-of-value functions and serve as a foundation for innovations like NFTs and DeFi, as highlighted in Brave’s announcement.

James Mudgett, VP of Web3 Products at Brave, emphasized the company’s dedication to providing a secure and privacy-centric software wallet with Brave Wallet. He stated, “Our goal with Brave Wallet is to offer the most secure and privacy-focused platform for everyday use. As the Bitcoin ecosystem continues to grow with new applications and services, Brave Wallet will prioritize security and privacy to safeguard users’ assets.”

Looking forward, Brave plans to introduce additional privacy-enhancing features within Brave Wallet. Furthermore, the company aims to enable users to store BRC-20 tokens and Ordinals in the wallet, with these enhancements expected to be implemented across all desktop and mobile versions of the browser later this year. This commitment to expanding features and enhancing user privacy underscores Brave’s dedication to supporting the evolving needs of crypto enthusiasts within the Brave ecosystem.
